A modified Switching pattern for 7 level Cascaded H Bridge Inverter to reduce inverter losses

The fulfillment of wide variety in energy demand by growing industries and incorporation of renewable energy source in power system is made possible by multilevel inverter. From design prospective it is also important to take care of losses took place in inverter i.e. switching and conduction losses in addition to the modulation techniques which look after harmonic spectrum in output voltage/current waveform. In this paper conventional switching pattern of cascaded H bridge inverter topology is analyzed through PSIM using thermal module of power electronic switches for losses and modification in switching pattern as well in topology is proposed which reduces losses in inverter.
